Samuel Eto'o claims to be the victim of a smear campaign.
Samuel Eto'o, current president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), is at the center of allegations involving match-fixing. Eto'o's lawyers have filed a complaint with FIFA, accusing Véron Mosengo-Omba, the secretary-general of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), of committing several violations of the ethics code, including defamation and abuse of power, in the context of the investigation.
CAF opened an investigation in August following accusations against Eto'o, fueled by the release of a recording in which he is allegedly involved. Eto'o's lawyers challenge the authenticity and legality of this recording, stating that it provides no proof of match-fixing and is part of a smear campaign against him. Eto'o's lawyers attempted to arrange a hearing with the CAF but claim they were ignored until they announced the filing of a complaint with FIFA. A hearing is now scheduled, although it will take place beyond the six-month deadline prescribed by the CAF's disciplinary code for conducting preliminary investigations
